About NMCMATE

NMCMATE is practice material for the computer-based test half of the NMC Test of Competence. It exists because the CBT is a specific exam with a published shape, and most revision material treats it as a general nursing quiz.

How we build it

The NMC publishes a test specification and a blueprint for each field of practice. Between them they set out how many questions come from each area, how those areas map onto the Future nurse standards, and how the questions are spread across levels of thinking.

We hold the question bank and the mock papers to those published numbers rather than to our own judgement about what matters. When the NMC updates the specification, the numbers here change to match.

What we do not claim

We are not affiliated with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, not endorsed by them, and not connected to them in any way. They do not approve preparation providers, and anyone telling you otherwise about their own material is worth a second look.

We have no access to real exam questions. Nobody outside the NMC and Pearson VUE legitimately does, and sharing exam content is a breach of the confidentiality you agree to as a candidate. Everything here is written from the published standards.

We do not publish a pass rate. We cannot verify what our users go on to score, so any figure we printed would be marketing rather than evidence.

Getting in touch

If a question looks wrong, tell us. There is a report button on every Gem and you can reach us through the contact page. Corrections are the cheapest way this gets better.
