NMC CBT questions and answers, with explanations
Below are clinical questions from across the Part B blueprint, each with its answer and the reasoning behind it. Read them rather than only answering them: the explanation is where the marks are, because it tells you why the other three options are wrong, which is the thing a single best answer question is actually testing.
- Questions from all seven Future Nurse platforms and both annexes
- The answer, and why the other options are not it
- The guideline the reasoning rests on, where one applies

Questions people ask
- What format are Part B questions?
- Four options with one best answer. One mark each, no partial credit, and nothing taken off for a wrong answer, so there is never a reason to leave one blank.
- What does Part B cover?
- The seven Future Nurse platforms plus Annexe A and Annexe B. The NMC publishes how many of the hundred questions come from each area, and around a tenth of Part B is specific to your field of practice.
- Why does the explanation matter more than the answer?
- Because the exam asks for the best of four defensible options rather than the only correct one. Knowing why the second-best answer is second-best is what transfers to the next question, and simply learning that the answer was C does not.
